In special circumstances, the University will, if necessary, defer some scholarships for a single period of up to two years. These special circumstances include humanitarian service and/or participation in University of Utah sponsored programs only. Scholarships will not be deferred for attendance at another institution or for work experience that is not part of a University of Utah program. If a student plans on participating in a University of Utah program that might necessitate the deferral of their scholarship, the Program Director of the college in question must notify the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office as soon as possible.
Students must submit a written request to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at least 60 days before the start of the semester, during which the deferral would begin.
Submit a letter from yourself, addressed to the Scholarship Appeals Committee, describing your special circumstances and the reasons you are requesting deferment. Attach documentation to support the special circumstances detailed in your letter.
Read the Admissions Office's deferment policy concerning a leave of absence and readmission.
