The 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available on Oct. 1, 2016. Students and parents will use 2015 tax information to complete the FAFSA. The University of Utah's Financial Aid Priority Date is February 1. To meet the Financial Aid Priority Date, students must have a complete FAFSA and no incomplete items on their financial aid checklist in Campus Information Services (CIS).
The Early FAFSA will be beneficial because more students will be able to use the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) in the FAFSA. This should cut down on the number of students selected for verification, which will allow students to be packaged with financial aid in a timely manner.
Prospective students will benefit in many ways. Students and parents will be able to make a well-informed financial decision before selecting a school. Also, the FAFSA will be more aligned with the admissions process. Prospective students will be able to complete admissions applications and the FAFSA at the same time.
