The University of Utah recognizes the outstanding scholastic achievement of high school seniors in the state of Utah. As a result, a sum of $5,000 is awarded toward the cost of tuition annually to the winner of each category for the following Utah regions: Wasatch Front*, Northeast Utah, Central Utah, Southeast Utah, and Southwest Utah

In-state Requirement
Preferred Candidate: Recipients are selected by the Deseret News and KSL Sterling Scholarship Program.
Minimum GPA: Maintain a 3.6 cumulative GPA
Application Information: This award is for a maximum of 8 semesters or until the student achieves a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. Students are required to take a minimum of 12 hours per semester.

Additional Application Requirements: Complete the admission process by Dec. 1. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all required documents are on file at the University of Utah by the deadline.
Terms: Renewable - Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6 and complete 24 hours of course work (20 of which must be graded) every two semesters. Grades are reviewed after the second, fourth, and sixth semester.
Other Requirements: *Please note that the Wasatch Front Region is divided into the north, central, and south areas, yet together make up the Wasatch Front Region. Only those students who are recognized by the Deseret News-KSL Television sponsors as winners of the Wasatch Front Region and are reported to the University of Utah, are eligible for the Sterling Scholar Award. This scholarship is considered a tuition scholarship. It can be combined with other tuition scholarships but only up to the cost of tuition. It is not a refundable award.
